Qatar Airways Hosts CSR Initiative to Provide Food Items to Needy Families in Kathmandu

DOHA, Qatar – To mark the Holy Month of Ramadan, Qatar Airways, in partnership with Qatar Charity, hosted a CSR event to provide needy families in Kathmandu with much-needed food items. The event took place on Saturday 11 May 2019 in CW Party Palace .

As a result of the donations collected, each family received 25 kg of rice, 3 kg of sugar, 5 kg of wheat flour, 3 kg of chickpeas, 1 kg of salt, 1 kg of sunflower seeds and 5 litres of sunflower oil.

Qatar Airways Country Head Nepal, Mr.Mohamed El Emam, said: “We are tremendously pleased to be able to help provide these much-needed items to families here in Kathmandu. This initiative, conducted in partnership with Qatar Charity, is just one of the ways in which we demonstrate our commitment to the people of Nepal. The Holy Month of Ramadan reminds us of the importance of giving to others, and we are delighted to have been able to have made a difference to the people here in the local community of Kathmandu.”

Corporate Social Responsibility is an important part of Qatar Airways’ values. The airline is a proud supporter of the Educate A Child (EAC) programme, an initiative that provides educational opportunities to children without access to education due to constraints such as extreme poverty, cultural barriers and conflict-affected environments.

Qatar Airways is also the Official Airline Partner of Orbis, an organisation which works to prevent avoidable blindness in areas of need. Working with a global team of volunteers and the world’s leading ophthalmic medical experts, Orbis runs long-term programmes in 18 countries, including India, Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Zambia, among others.

A multiple-award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class’ by the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Business Class Seat’, ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, and ‘World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge’.

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft via its hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA) to more than 160 destinations worldwide. The airline will add a number of new destinations to its extensive route network in 2019, including Izmir, Turkey; Rabat, Morocco; Malta; Davao, Philippines; Lisbon, Portugal; Mogadishu, Somalia and Langkawi, Malaysia.
