Doha – Recently a documentary entitled “BAHADUR BAHINI” (The Brave Sister) was screened in Qatar. The 40- min documentary was screened for free at Golden Fork restaurant near Doha. Ganesh Panday, director of this documentary was in a week visit to Qatar. “Bahadur Bahini” (The Brave Sister) is based on Sabitri Shresthas’s struggle in seeking justice for the murder of her two brothers.

During civil war in Nepal, Sabitri from Pokhali, Okhaldhunga district unfortunately loses her first brother Ujjan Shrestha on June 24, 1998. for having inter-cast marriage and five years later her second brother Ganesh who plead against his brother murderer’s was shot dead in front of his traumatized daughter Rachana, who went on to commit suicide. Her house was captured and made party’s central office by Maoist and later bombed by armed force. This painful story is based on real-life incidents. For the relentless struggle for justice of her (sabitri) three family members and the problems after the incident her family beared is documented in “The brave Sister”.


Balkrishna Dhungel the murderer of Sabitri’s two brother finally became guilty to this crime and ordered for lifetime in jail by supreme court but sadly amnestied later by Maoist top leader Dr. Baburam  Bhattrai after becoming prime minister at that time. She went to media houses, visited human rights activists and the Prime Minister’s office and even approaches the President but still remained unanswered. She also had to deal with frequent death threats and money demand  from the culprits whilst fighting the case.The really brave sister didn’t deal with anything but only struggled and struggled for the Justice to her family members.


Where is the justice? Why this kind of crime is powered and ruled by party’s top leaders in our country. Let’s all pray justice for Sabitri and her family members, said Ganesh Panday the director of this super well documented documentary at short conversation after the show. Panday was farewelled by newly opened Press Chautari, Qatar chapter and wished him forever success. “Bahadur Bahini” is also going to be screened in Dubai in January 1.
